What Was The Project?
Being out first integrated project, I didn't know what to expect. How could something so based off Physics incorporate Humanities work? However, this was one of my favorite projects so far. Humanities Section For the Humanities part of this project, we wrote about our family in a scientific sense, metaphorical sense, and a cultural sense. For the scientific writing, I wrote about how my family was like lithium, because it verges on instability, like how something is always going on in my household. |
Physics Section
What I did was make a model of what a Lithium atom would look like if it were millions of times bigger. I started to work on building a nucleus with small clay spheres glued together to represent the protons and neutrons in the nucleus. After that, I bent wire into two rings around the nucleus that the electrons would "orbit" on. This didn't work however. The nucleus was far too heavy and the nucleus would keep falling off. I made a second draft, which was far more stable. Instead of clay balls for the nucleus, it was one big, light foam ball painted the colors I needed it to. Then, I used foam for the electrons as well. I stuck to the same wire idea, but this time the wire was stronger and the elections were lighter. |
