So far we've tested the parking lot drain's water for different factors. These include Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Fat, Oil, and Grease (FOG). Thankfully, there were very little total suspended solids contained in the water, at 9 mg/L. Surprisingly, there were no FOG detected in the water sample we collected. This could have however been because the FOG was already swept into the drain.
But that doesn't mean the drain wasn't totally clean. Inside the drain, there were visible rocks and leaves from nearby trees. Concerning the Parking Lot Group the most was the large rocks that were in the drain that couldn't be removed easily. These rocks were easily the size of a fist, and how they even got into the drain was a mystery. The Parking Lot Group is hoping to find a way to remove the rocks and leaves and make sure none get into the drain anymore.
Based on our data, nothing major needs to be addressed with our drain. The total suspended solids are essentially unavoidable, and since our drain had such a small amount, it isn't necessary to take action upon. An idea the group had was to put a net around the drain so it could still keep water flowing through, whilst minimizing the amount of leaves and rocks going in.
As for what I want to do later on in life, I'm not totally sure. Hopefully I can get somewhere in career day and learn what career I'd like to do. One thing I think seems interesting is orthodontist work. While I was undergoing the process of getting my braces on, I frequently visited a small orthodontist's office. Everyone seemed like they enjoyed working there and it seemed like there was a lot to do, with a lot of variety. The most important thing for me in a job is variety. If I'm simply doing the same thing every single day, I feel like I will generally be unhappy and bored.
